BLUES BEFORE SUNRISE FOR 11/27/16
TINY POWELL SINGS THE BLUES & GOSPEL

Thanksgiving weekend, has traditionally been our least listened to program of the year. Half the listening audience is out of town and the other half are busy or exhausted from entertaining visiting family members. And that’s a genuine shame because this coming weekend we have a really interesting program. Back in 1964 Bluesman Tiny Powell had a landmark hit with a tune called “My Time Afterwhile”. You may be familiar with the cover version by Buddy Guy but it was originally the hit for Tiny Powell. What’s fascinating is that Tiny spent most of his life, both before and after the hit record, singing and recording Gospel! He sang with over a half dozen different Gospel quartets but sang AND RECORDED with the Five Blind Boys of Mississippi, The Paramount Gospel Sings and the Golden Harp Singers. We’ll spend Hour #4 spinning a mix of his Blues records and his Gospel recordings – The best of both worlds - Don’t miss it! (“I won’t Steve – Z–Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-zzzzzzzz…)
