BLUES BEFORE SUNRISE FOR 2/19/17
PREWAR - POSTWAR

This week on BBS we’ll present Prewar – Postwar.  This is one of the basic rules of Blues and one of the first things I noticed during my earliest explorations of Blues – plagiarism is the rule, not the exception. I found that many of the classic Blues recordings of the 1950s were reworkings of tunes originally recorded before WWII. We’ll spend Hours 3 & 4 listening to the original recordings side-by-side with the Postwar hits. Prewar – Postwar – Only on BBS!

BLUES BEFORE SUNRISE FOR 2/12/17
BBS SPOTLITE ON RHYTHM

This week on BBS we turn the spotlight on the word “Rhythm” and all the tunes I can find that feature the word “Rhythm” in their title. It’s fun because the notion of rhythm was a minor pop phenomenon. During the 1930s everybody and their brother used the concept of rhythm to promote the music they were playing – “Mama I Wanna Make Rhythm”, “Vote For Mr. Rhythm”, “Rhythm In The Barnyard”, “Rhythm Saved The World”, “I’m An Errand Boy For Rhythm” – and on and on. Join us and see if it’s true that all God’s children got rhythm.
